Internet Explorer: Disable “Do you want to open or save this file?” download prompt Posted on July 10, 2013 July 26, 2015 by Luca Sturlese Recently I was asked to disable the “Do you want to open this file?” or “Do you want to open or save this file?” prompt in Internet Explorer for all InfoPath Template files (.xsn ).
Is there anyway to just click on a link to download my PDF
, it opens up and I do a Save As
from there without having to go through the Download Manager every time?

Yes you can. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2678934 Be aware though that 'assoc .pdf' may return .pdf=AcroExch.Document.11, whereas in my case I had to add AcroPDF.PDF.1 to the reg key.

Hi,
Let's refer to Basith M's answer from this post about disabling download manager in IE.
Feel free to send us your feedback at your convenience.
Regards.
Basith M's answer says that the download manager cannot be the disabled and that this is done by design and cannot be changed.
****

Software designs can always be changed.
What is the purpose of the Download Manager?
Ie Download Manager Plugin
Why can't there be an option setting so that the user could choose to display it or not?
Ie Download
Why can't there be a menu option so that users can open the download manager if and when they actually want to instead of having it forced upon them?
At minimum, can't Microsoft just set the tab order so that we can easily activate the Open button from the keyboard? That way, the people that hate the **** Download Manager could just open their file and close the **** window with one keystroke!!!
Disable Internet Download Manager Update
Does Microsoft ever do any useability testing?
