I've heard from several people who have had a similar issue to mine. Once an SD card is inserted, the GPD will chime, but the card won't appear in Windows Explorer. Under devices and printers, the card will be listed but with a '!' icon. Troubleshooting will report that there is a driver issue, but reinstalling doesn't fix it.
Someone at Dingoonity pointed me toward this file on Baidu. Instructions are in Chinese, but Google translator helped. All you need to do is update the third Intel SD Host Controller device in Device Manager with the driver included in the package. You will also need to disable driver signature checks to do this.
Once installed, this instantly fixed the problem for me and all of my SDs are now booting instantly, even my 200GB Sandisk.
