Does anyone have a solution to get Canon RAW files (.cr2), or really RAW (and DNG) files in general to show up with thumbnails in Explorer in Windows 10? Canon doesn't have a codec download for Win10, and there's no Microsoft Camera Codec Pack post-Windows 8.1, which won't install on 10.
Speaking of RAW files, I now have a camera that's no longer supported by the version of Adobe Camera Raw I have with my CS6 install. For the moment I'm using Adobe's Raw to DNG(*) converter and then importing the DNG files into Photoshop with Camera Raw. So now I'm contemplating getting Lightroom and/or Creative Cloud. I think I can get a CC work-at-home license for cheap at work, something like $10 per year.
Is anyone else using a DNG workflow? Any particular advantages or disadvantages to the format? Other than the extra time/disk space that gets used up with the extra conversion.
(*) .dng files which also do not get thumbnails in Windows 10 without a codec that I also can't find. At least Adobe Bridge sees them.
Microsoft Camera Codec Windows 10
The Windows 10 Codec Pack is a free easy to install bundle of codecs/filters/splitters used for playing back movie and music files. After installation you will be able to play 99.9% of files.
